overnight a collection of rocks became a marvelous little display along the waterfront walkway. precarious and beautiful. i don't know who does it, but i imagine kids who get focussed and obsessed on making just one more and this wonderful village springs up from their hands.
pulling on the same clothes i've worn for two days from the bedroom floor, to get edgar out for his walk to loosen up his stiff and lanky legs, squinting from the bright sun, but loving it. and once again, being happy that i have my camera in tow. meeting friends along the path on their way to practice yoga by the lake, jogging in the morning sunshine.
and now i'm scrounging around for coffee, but i believe we are out, so i'll walk up to the corner and bring us home coffees to drink in the sunny yard. here we go, another day to fill with loveliness!!!

every day of every life has a moment worthy of sharing. that's why i keep this little collection of moments some days are full of them and other days they are such a trickle that you wonder if you can find one. i thought yesterday would be one of the latter days. i sewed for 13 hours and then came home and stared blankly at tv until i dropped into bed. but there were so many wonderful moments too. .....naomi knocking on the door and playing with fabric scraps while i sewed, telling me about her camping trip and her day at rock climbing camp. and when tom came to see when i wanted to have dinner, she fluttered around him covering him with fabric scraps and giggling. ......talking on the phone with my mother as she was heading out to the herb garden naked. she loves to sit in the sun among the herbs and flowers and soak up the sun completely. silly and weird and completely fantastic. .....and tom making a wonderful summer dinner and enjoying it together.

tomorrow (wednesday) i'm opening the studio at noon and will stay open until between 7.00 & 8.00. there are lots of tea towels and napkins and collage and moleskines and 9 red and cream crib sized quilts that also work nicely as a small lap quilt. this is an example. if you're in the area come. and tell anyone who might be interested to came and have a look in lovely portsmouth village.

above our harbour, the skies have been darkening and rumbling and building a drama, a heavy and a humid drama. we were racing around town doing errands, watching the storm form over wolfe island. as we drove the sky would glow and shake and growl.
and then we were home. the boats seemed so calm and settled, even when the lightning started. we could see the rain falling in cloud form, across the lake. and now it's moved across the water to us. our windows are open and the lullaby of rain is filling the rooms. i'm drinking lavender soda. and watching 10 hours of dvr-ed wimbledon tennis. with the gentle pitch and quiver of summer rain as my background music.

as i was leaving for work yesterday afternoon, the curtains and the sun and little window were all so lovely that i ran for my camera and tried to get some quick shots. i was rushing, but it made me happy all evening thinking about the window and the light and the vintage curtains and the photos. and when i came home after a great evening at work, the moon was round and huge, sitting low above the lake, and striped gray with clouds. i wanted to grab my big lens and wander with the moon for a few minutes. but the extra energy that would take just wasn't there. the moon kept glimpsing in at me and calling me out to play, but i couldn't do it. yesterday i had two of the spontaneous photography moments that keep my eyes fresh and twirl me around a little inside. and i only used one of them. that moon is haunting me.

it is barbecue season. and yesterday was a marvelous gathering. i love when our house is teeming with people. the yard full of neighbors and children and cats and fabulous food and beer and laughter and conversation. the boys playing chasing games and soccer and basketball. with a huge tent in the back of the yard just for fun.toddlers and babies and our lovely friend with her baby still curled in her belly. swaying on the porch swing covered with quilts. it was such a perfect evening, all of us a little drunk with summer. when the sun fell and the bats began to fly the air chilled and we built a smoky fire with damp wood. another magical portsmouth village night. and unbeknownst to any of us, our beautiful pregnant neighbor spent the last evening of her pregnancy with us. and today we have another village baby.
