my coffee this morning is un cafe noisette. like my paris days. just a drop of milk, to soften the first hit of caffeine. just a drop for this pleasant gray day. the weekend has been smooth and full. our little village within the city is getting closer and closer to perfection. we now have the most lovely little market of local produce, eggs, milk, meats, sauces, baked goods. hatter's bay country market. all local and fresh. a pleasure to walk in and take home dinner daily. again like my paris days. buying what i need each day instead of huge grocery shopping trips with much of the food spoiling before i find a chance to prepare it. the walls are limestone with warm wood floors. fresh coffee and cookies while you shop. i found it had opened yesterday (i've been watching for the open sign to emerge) and brought home a basket of potatoes with a pork loin steak for tom that fed him dinner and still has a couple of meals worth of leftovers for him. (i won't eat the meat selections, but i love being able to grab it for tom since he can't seem to enjoy a meal without meat).
so today i'll iron fabric for quilts next week. while we watch football. maybe a movie. maybe a pizza. sundays are good.

  1. A beautiful way to spend a Sunday...lovely that this market has opened near you. I have never been to Paris but I have always embraced the idea of shopping for the day, for what you need rather than gathering and wasting. The sun is out in Toronto...I hope it makes its way eastward!

  2. You are really lucky to have everything so near! Once a month, we have a really good farmers market here, and we can buy all sorts of farm products that we cannot find in the shops. I am on the sofa, insisting of doing nothing, while my husband is doing everything.Well, I am blogging, thou! Have a really nice sunday

  4. i always enjoy local markets. in Athens there was one every tuesday, by our house. it was so much fun! all these wonderful colours and scents in the middle of a huge city... every nabourhood had one once a week. they stil do it in some areas. here i have found a small local shop run by young students of the nearby farmschool. they have made a very beautiful, hommy place, but i have to drive about 30 min to get there. would loved to visit it more often.... myabe i should ; )

  5. It sounds like you are having a very relaxing Sunday... as it should be. I wish we had a little market with fresh produce, bakery goods, and meat. I am a bit like you, I don't have to have meat but husband likes it.

I too, will be ironing fabric and watching TV. I made an Italian soup with cornbread for dinner, always more than we can eat but off to the freezer it goes for other times.

    Hope you enjoy your day.

  6. I love buying local, fresh food. I'm so happy you have such a wonderful market. I'm also glad you got some sun. We had a sun also. Mike was outside all day and I joined him for the afternoon. We planted about 10 of my favorite trees (Norway Spruce) around the property. I'm so happy!

  7. Sundays ARE good are they not. especially when filled with a sort of non-purposed purpose... that's my favourite for sure. Perhaps one day I'll join you on your trip to the market... how delightful that will be ;-)
