i love the mornings i am awake too early. i watch the trees become visible against the lightening sky. and i sit with my thoughts. and with edgar's deep sleepy breathing. and a cat or two leaned against my leg. but i think it's the stillness and the doing-nothing-ness of these mornings that gives me the fuel to make creative decisions for the next 10 hours. these early mornings are a luxury of quiet self-directed thoughts. this is when i like to write here in my blog. sometimes my mind is so empty and tired that i just write what i see around me. this morning is like that. but as i write my mind and my eyes open up.
i warned tom last night that i wanted an early morning bath this morning. so off i go.....it will probably wake him. but my day has started now. my mind is racing with all the quilts i need to finish.

  1. I enjoyed the drowsy-just-waking and slowly becoming alert tones of this. I too wake early and watch morning present itself. A lovely time of day.

  2. Sometimes, I find myself waking up at around 3:30 a.m. and just lay there thinking about things. I can lay there for 2 hours or so before I get sleepy again and doze off again. It's in the stillness of those early morning hours that I make many of my decisions while talking to myself.

  3. I love the early morning hour too Annette. Is the energy I need, this 20 min or so before the kids are up, and the house full : )

  4. I do love that time of day. One thing I enjoy when returning home from Europe is the early waking.

  5. Hello dear friend. I am missing you more and more the further we get from our visit. (the boys are calling it their favorite trip of all time!) Or maybe it's because winter is over and we are now able to get out and about better and I wish that you were here.

  6. Oh I know the luxury of early mornings. BUT somehow I never manage. I fight with my alarm clock and in the end I regret when it is too late... I hope your post is animating for my getting up tomorrow...
