enter november. today i can feel the november-ness in the air. chill and stark. cats finding their indoor spots to curl up near a heat vent or fireplace or pile of quilts.(i woke in the night with my arm wrapped around stella's warm little gray body, under the duvet. she had arranged herself into the maximum comfort and warmth position in the house) the lake looks like steel. trees are lines on the sky. my skin feels dry and stiff from the dry furnace air. i wrap my throat in a scarf now. and socks are surfacing again. and the christmas cactus is in full dramatic bloom. the shift has happened. we are on our way to winter.

  1. "trees are lines in the sky". Beautiful! You have such a beautiful way of saying things. You are such a poet. I love that our weather mirrors your weather. Congrats on your napkin feature. I hope it helps you sell tons for the holidays. How was your open house the other day?

  4. Isn't it funny how the change in turning on the furnace, the barren look outside and the chill and cold in the air can affect your senses.

Everytime, we turn on our furnace for the coming of cold weather I have a dry throat and usually cover my nose with the sheet in bed to keep from breathing in the cold air.

  6. You describe our southern Ontario November so aptly. This morning is one of those November days..we've been blessed with mild weather but there is no doubt when you look at the sky or the trees or that lake...it is in fact November.

  7. not having Lake Ontario to watch slowly freeze over due to the coming winter season is a very strange experience (now that i live in Montreal). the only warnings of winter i received were the bitter winds and sitting on cold concrete benches while i wait for my bus.
i can't wait to be back in Kingston, even if it's only for a couple of weeks.
